Mark your calendars for June 2nd and 3rd. You’ve got a date that day to blow your mind.
Free Press Houston has just announced the line up to their Free Press Summer Fest, and it’s a doozy. You’ve got hip-hop. You’ve got country. You’ve got rock. You’ve got indie. And you’ve got a Houstunes favorite and genre-defying psychedelic blend of jazz and blues and indie and pop that is the Tontons.
Somewhat akin to Austin’s ACL Festival, the FPSF is an event meant to highlight some of the amazing local talent from our town. Sure, the festival-slash-weekend rockout-a-thon that is Free Press Summer Fest will be headlined by national acts like Snoop Dogg, Willie Nelson, and The Flaming Lips, but the real treat behind the festival is its focus on Houston artists. If there’s anything about Houston that should garner more attention, it’s our burgeoning music scene. Seeing names like the Wild Moccasins, Z-Ro, A Sea Es, and yes, the Tontons, I can’t help but admire the diversity and talent that FPSF has lined up for the people of our great city. So while you’re sippin’ on your gin & juice, or tripping out to The Flaming Lips’ rendition of The Dark Side Of The Moon, you can check out some of the talent in our collective backyard.
Weekend passes are now on sale, ranging from a you-have-no-excuse-not-to-go $55 to a jaw dropping $800 for VIP treatment. I like the idea of the mid-range, er, “Fancy Pants” pricing of $85. It is going to be right smack in the middle of the overpowering Houston summer, after all, so the air-conditioned comfort makes a whole lot of sense. All this great talent at these great prices? I’ll be there. No doubt.
And also, The Tontons, you guys. The Tontons.
Jose – Thanks for the continued support of The Tontons. Its much appreciated. Wanted to share this with you in case you missed.
Keep up the good work!

I’m always interested in highlighting things that more people should know about. That’s why we started this website!
The Tontons have this great sound that I fall in love with over and over again. There’s something timeless about the music, something new yet familiar. I can’t explain it. But I always love hearing more of it.
Thanks for the link! I really wish I could have checked them out at SXSW. I guess I’ll have to make due with the Houston shows.
The freakin’ Tontons, you guys!
