Scarlet Spider: Houston’s Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman!

Houston comic book aficionados rejoice! We now have a superhero and comic book series to call our very own! Marvel Comics, home of the X-Men, The Avengers, and pretty much every other superhero movie released in the last few years, has decided to base their newest Spiderman series right here in our hometown.

Fair warning though, a Spiderman will be moving his web-slingin’ heroics to Houston, but it is not THE Spiderman. Rather, Houston will become home to the Scarlet Spider, a clone of the original Spiderman, Peter Parker. In a preview from the new series’ creators, our hero has decided to escape to Mexico from New York City but ends up landing in Houston, where apparently we have been overrun by super-villains! Can we say mutant alligator from the Bayou? Yes? Maybe?

Now although I have been a long time Spiderman fan, I won’t claim to be much of a comic book collector or superhero expert. Those days are long behind me…

Okay, I still get ridiculously excited over random superhero figurines and collector items but I claim to buy them for my younger cousins or friend’s kids! And then I secretly wish I had kept them… ALL OF THEM.

So yeah, I’m excited about the release of the Scarlet Spider series. C’mon, I want to see our hero swinging from building to building down Main Street in Downtown, catch a ride on top of the Light Rail down Fannin, and then commence web slinging through the Med Center!  It makes you wonder though, will the Scarlet Spider have a car? EVERYBODY needs a car in Houston!

The creators of the Scarlet Spider series will be signing issues of Scarlet Spider #1 at 8th Dimension Comics and Games from Noon to 4 P.M. this Wednesday. The series release will also be celebrated at the An Evening With Marvel event at the Alamo Draft House in West Oak Mall, Wednesday night beginning at 7:30 P.M.
