Looking for a new way to get into shape? BMX Racing may be right for you! BMX is fun for the whole family. Our youngest rider is 3 years old and our “most vintage” rider is 50+ years young – so age is not really an issue. If you can ride a bicycle with little assistance and without training wheels – YOU CAN BMX!
Every new rider starts at the Novice (beginner) level and advances at his/her own pace. Some riders are really good at BMX the very first time on the track. Other riders need lots of practice.
Bicycle Motocross (BMX) does not require a lot of expensive equipment. Get the bike you already have, make a few modifications and you’re ready to ride!
Every rider must wear:
* a properly fitting helmet (full face protection preferred)
* long pants or shorts with a shin/knee guard combination
* long sleeved shirt (coverage to at least elbows) or short sleeves w/elbow pads
* shoes that completely enclose foot
Bicycle must be in good working order with:
* all chain guards, pegs, reflectors and kick stand removed
* a working brake system (hand rear brake or coaster brake is acceptable)
* complete bar end plugs (no exposed metal on end of handlebars)
* the wheel diameter no less than 16 inches (in order to get up & over obstacles)
Most tracks hold a practice session at least once a week and race twice a week. Some tracks even have loaner bikes and safety equipment for first time riders. Houston has a large group of active BMX riders. There are currently three tracks in the Houston area, the largest turnout is typically at Pearland BMX.
Come out and join the fun at Pearland BMX! Check out the website http://www.pearlandbmx.com for more info. They have riders from Novice to Pro that ride at Pearland BMX, you may even see some of the BMX Super Cross riders you see on television.
