Look Hot in the Cold

It’s almost time to send your adorable open-toe, Tory-Burch flats and your catwalk, peep-toe Christian Louboutin pumps into hibernation. Or, if you’re like me, your flip-flops and everyday, Guess pumps get thrown to the back of the closet. Why? Winter is almost here!

Being a Houstonian, it’s kind of hard to keep up with Winter fashion, right? Winter takes so long to get here and in a blink of an eye, it’s gone. While it’s here though, let’s have some fun.

leatherjacketI love winter because it allows you to be creative with a couple articles of clothing.  Winter lets us wear our favorite pieces over and over again and never look the same. Layers allow you to seamlessly move from the office to happy hour to a romantic date simply by taking off or adding a sweater, scarf, shoes, or jacket.

So, what’s hot for 2011?  Probably, whatever YOU think is hot.

We live in a time where creativity is celebrated.  Celebrities everywhere are stepping out in bold outfits that in another time may have been criticized but are now, praised for their unique sense of style. Just ask Lady Gaga.  Just…please don’t take that as a free pass to wear meat.

So what pieces are absolutely essential for this Houston Winter?

Because we’re Texans and sometimes can’t really pull off fur, try some knee high, leather riding boots instead, they’re a perfect everyday boot for jeans.  Always, and this is for every season, have a black blazer handy — it can turn your cocktail dress into professional attire (sometimes), or throw it over a white tee and your skinny jeans, roll up the sleeves and you’re ready for happy hour.  As much as I’d love to suggest a beautiful wool coat, any Houstonian could tell you that unless you plan on traveling, you’re wasting your money. Try a leather jacket instead, it’s light enough for our type of cold and when paired up with different scarves, you can go from the bad girl look to shabby chic.

On that note, take advantage of the opportunity and wear the leather jacket with the scarf too — you’ll look amazing.

One thing to remember is you don’t have to have millions to look and feel fabulous.  Be yourself and you will always be in fashion.
