In the culinary sea of the Houston East End, there is no shortage of great tacos to be found among the largely Hispanic neighborhoods. With an area littered with taco trucks and taquerias serving up traditional beef, chicken and pork tacos, it was refreshing to find tacos with a lighter, much more So-Cal style. The Bo’s Baja Tacos at Bohemeos are some of my favorite fish tacos in town.
Available in fish, shrimp and veggie varieties, the spicy cream sauce is the x-factor that makes the Bo’s Baja Tacos a stand out on Bohemeos menu. Personally, I prefer the fish over the shrimp or veggies, but they’re all quite good. The lingering spice from the sauce against the texture of freshly shredded purple cabbage atop chunks of grilled fish makes for a perfect bite. And the best part is you don’t have to feel guilty about eating them as they are easily the lighter taco option.
Bohemeos, the iconic East End establishment, is mostly known as an eclectic coffeehouse offering live music as well as being an original driving force behind the East End local art movement.
With the revival of Houston’s East End neighborhood fully underway, it’ll only be a matter of time before this Houston hidden treasure gains the type of exposure it deserves. Look for a MyHoustonLife full feature article on Bohemeos in the near future!
